Plumbing for Bridgewater homes
Bridgewater is mostly single-family houses, about 70% of all homes, spread from the older streets around Bridgewater Center and Finderne to the hills of Martinsville. Plumbing Doctor works across the township from our base in neighboring Somerset.
Water heaters and hard water
Bridgewater's water comes from New Jersey American Water, whose largest treatment plant, Raritan-Millstone, sits right in the township. NJ American Water lists the hardness in its Raritan systems as naturally occurring. In practice that means sediment at the bottom of tank water heaters and white scale on faucets and shower heads. Flushing a tank heater once a year keeps it quieter and helps it last. If scale is a constant fight, ask about a water softener.
Older sections, older pipes
Half of Bridgewater's homes were built before 1980, and in Bridgewater Center the median house dates to 1968. Homes that age often still have original cast-iron drains and galvanized or early copper supply lines. When drains back up more than once, we run a camera through the line before recommending anything.
Flood-prone spots
Ida sent Middle Brook over Route 22 near Thompson Avenue in September 2021 and damaged a sanitary sewer main there. The North Branch of the Raritan crested just above its Floyd record on the Branchburg line. Homes near the brooks should test the sump pump each spring.
