Small leaks cost more than they look

A leak inside a wall can run for months before a stain shows up. By then the drywall, insulation and framing may be wet, and mold can follow. A sudden jump in the water bill is often the first sign. If you see one, check the meter with everything off.

How we find leaks

We start at the water meter to confirm water is leaving the system, then isolate sections of the house until the leak is narrowed to one line or fixture. Only then do we open a wall or ceiling, and only at that spot. Leaks under a slab or in the yard get the same treatment: locate first, dig or cut second.

Leaks we fix

  • Supply lines to sinks, toilets and appliances
  • Shut-off valves that drip or won't close
  • Pinhole leaks in copper pipe
  • Corroded galvanized pipe and fittings
  • Pipes that split during a freeze
  • Leaking water heater connections and relief valves

If your house has a lot of old galvanized or corroded pipe, patching one leak after another stops making sense. See repiping.

Step 03Leak Detection & Repair

Repair it

We replace the failed fitting, valve or pipe section and test the line under pressure.

Step 04Leak Detection & Repair

Explain the cause

Corrosion, a freeze, high water pressure or a bad fitting. Knowing why stops the next one.

Water on the floor right now?

Call. A licensed plumber answers day or night, talks you through stopping the water, and gets on the road.

908-873-6686

Nights, weekends and holidays: emergency visits are an extra $250, paid upfront. We tell you on the phone before we drive out.

Do this now

  1. Shut the main valve. Usually where the water line enters, near the meter.
  2. Kill power to anything wet, from the breaker panel, if you can reach it dry.
  3. Open a low faucet to drain the pipes and take pressure off the leak.

Leak Detection & Repair: common questions

How do I know if I have a hidden water leak?

Turn off every faucet, appliance and the irrigation, then look at the water meter. If the dial or the small leak indicator still moves, water is escaping somewhere. Call us and we'll find where.

Do you have to cut open my walls to find a leak?

Not to find it. We locate the leak first and open only the spot where the repair has to happen, which keeps drywall repair small.

What causes pipes to leak?

Corrosion in older galvanized and copper pipes, joints that loosen over time, pipes that froze, and water pressure set too high are the most common causes.

Is a leak an emergency?

If water is spreading and you can't stop it, yes: shut off the main valve and call. A slow drip can wait for a regular visit, but don't leave it long, because hidden leaks cause mold and rot.
